About the role

This role provides asset engineering expertise across Top Energy's electricity network, supporting the development and ongoing management of asset lifecycle strategies, risk-based investment plans, and asset information and technical governance. It ensures network assets remain safe, reliable, resilient, and fit for purpose throughout their lifecycle. The role is also responsible for translating asset needs into robust programmes, standards, and decision-making support for the 10-year Asset Management Plan (AMP).

The role is based in Kerikeri and will report to the Planning Manager.

About you

It is essential that you have a bachelor's degree in engineering, a high level of computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. You will also hold a full clean NZ drivers' licence. Experience in network engineering planning and design with 5-7 years' experience in the electricity supply industry is preferred (however we would welcome applicants with less experience to apply ). An added advantage would be having experience with SAP or another enterprise resource planning system.

Key areas of focus

  • Develop asset lifecycle, replacement, and refurbishment strategies.
  • Analyse asset condition data to support risk-based decisions.
  • Investigate significant asset failures and apply learnings to standards and programmes.
  • Improve asset decision support, datasets, risk rankings, and performance insights.
  • Provide technical guidance on asset standards, safety, maintainability, and sustainability.
  • Develop business cases and option assessments using whole-of-life cost and risk analysis.
  • Review designs and work packs for alignment with asset strategy and standards.
  • Support supplier engagement on performance, warranty, obsolescence, and spares planning.
  • Share technical knowledge and mentor developing engineers where appropriate.
  • Identify and report asset-related safety risks and hazards.

About the role

As a member of the Top Energy Vegetation Control team, you will assist with carrying out vegetation clearance work around power lines during regular scheduled maintenance, or fault response operations either supervised or unsupervised, as directed.

This role reports to the Vegetation Supervisor and is based at the Puketona Depot.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will be physically fit and hold a full clean driver's licence, an HT licence, a close working zone certificate, and have knowledge of the Codes of Practice for the maintenance of trees around power lines and power-operated elevating working platforms. A Class 4 driver's licence, basic knowledge of the Electricity (Hazards from Trees) Regulations 2003, and arborist, forestry and chainsaw use experience would be advantageous.

  • Service machinery and safety equipment to ensure it remains fit for purpose
  • Complete paperwork and return equipment as required to support accurate job invoicing

About the role

We are currently seeking a Line Mechanic Foreman to lead a crew of Line Mechanics and Trainee Line Mechanics in the execution of installation, maintenance and repair of electrical distribution lines (Overhead and Underground) and associated equipment to deliver assigned tasks within budget, to quality requirements and with no safety incidents. This position reports to the Construction Supervisor and is based at our Puketona Depot.

About you

To succeed in this role, you will hold a current EWRB practising licence as a registered Line Mechanic, along with a minimum of three years' industry experience. You must hold a full NZ Driver's Licence and HT, with extensive experience using EPVs, truck mounted cranes and other plant for line construction/maintenance tasks. A thorough understanding of line construction methods, both underground and overhead, is essential. As is an in-depth knowledge of electricity principles and being a competent user of test equipment for fault finding and commissioning.

  • Leadership of the team in completing all aspects of tasks on the work site, meeting all health and safety requirements

Line Mechanic

About the role

We are seeking experienced Line Mechanics to install, maintain and repair electrical distribution lines and associated equipment, including the provision of emergency repairs and out-of-hours fault rectification.

This position reports to the Construction Supervisor and will be based at our Puketona Depot.

About you

To succeed in this role, you will hold a current Practicing Licence as an EWRB Registered Line Mechanic, along with a minimum of two years of industry experience. You must hold a full NZ Driver Licence, including classes 1 and 2, and preferably up to class 5 would be an advantage. You must have comprehensive knowledge of electrical practices and must be competent as an Overhead Switching Operator. It is also essential that you are not colour blind.

Key areas of focus

  • Providing line construction services including poles and other line support structures, conductors, transformers, switches, earth banks and all associated equipment
  • Maintaining and overhauling distribution lines and equipment, conducting scheduled maintenance and testing
  • Network fault identification and rectification
  • Providing a cable laying service, including testing and livening
  • Participation in the after-hours roster for fault restoration

A Full current NZ driver licence is essential, as is experience working around live electrical distribution systems and the appropriate procedures.
