Opportunity Overview:
At Quantifi Photonics, we're redefining the boundaries of photonics innovation, and we're looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our growing product development team. In this role, you'll be responsible for designing and developing mechanical components, enclosures, and assemblies that bring our next-generation products to life. You'll play a key role in ensuring designs meet performance, manufacturability, and reliability standards while supporting the delivery of high-quality products to market.
+ Design and develop 3D models and detailed drawings for mechanical parts (enclosures, heatsinks, brackets, etc.) using CAD tools (Inventor, SolidWorks or similar).
+ Build and test mechanical prototypes to verify form, fit, and function; conduct environmental and stress testing to validate designs.
+ Collaborate cross-functionally with NPI, Manufacturing, Procurement, and Operations teams to ensure designs are optimized for manufacturability and cost.
+ Conduct simulations and engineering calculations for thermal, vibration, and mechanical stress analysis.
+ Align mechanical solutions with overall product requirements, balancing function, aesthetics, and environmental constraints.
+ Prepare and manage Bills of Materials (BOMs), drawings, and controlled release packages in accordance with internal documentation standards.
+ Contribute to continuous improvement by implementing design, material, and process enhancements based on lessons learned and emerging technologies.

+ Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering.
+ Solid experience designing mechanical systems and sub-systems for commercial products.
+ Proficiency in 3D CAD software (Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks or equivalent).
+ Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, materials, tolerancing, thermal management, and design for manufacturing.
+ Solid understanding of design standards, documentation, and configuration management.
+ Familiarity with product development processes and cross-functional team collaboration.
+ Experience working in global teams with distributed engineering functions.
+ Experience designing tooling, jigs, and fixtures for manufacturing.
+ Exposure to electronic product design and integration.
+ Experience with issue/task tracking tools such as JIRA.

Position Purpose

The Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for supporting mechanical maintenance and repair work across the warehouse, ensuring the smooth operation of machinery and equipment. The role includes assisting with the preparation of plans and mechanical designs, installation of systems, and troubleshooting of industrial equipment, under the guidance of engineers and senior technicians

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare technical drawings, diagrams, and layouts for mechanical systems, under the direction of Mechanical Engineers or Engineering Technologists.
  • Assist in the design and development of warehouse mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Select appropriate tools, equipment, and materials required for maintenance tasks.
  • Assemble, install, and test mechanical systems including conveyors, forklifts, hydraulic docks, and other warehouse equipment.
  • Perform preventative and reactive maintenance activities to minimise equipment downtime.
  • Estimate materials, quantities, and machine time required for projects.
  • Collect and analyse performance and testing data; carry out technical computations.
  • Conduct and oversee field and workshop-based diagnostic tests.
  • Organise and supervise inspections and routine maintenance of machinery.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant safety standards, technical specifications, and operational procedures.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Diploma or higher qualification in Mechanical Engineering (NZQA Level 5 equivalent), Or Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience in mechanical maintenance.
  • Sound understanding of warehouse mechanical systems and industrial equipment.
  • Experience in interpreting mechanical drawings and plans.
  • Ability to diagnose faults and suggest appropriate technical solutions.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and in a team.
  • Familiarity with New Zealand Health & Safety practices (training will be provided if needed).

Due to continued growth, our Transmission & Distribution team is expanding, and we're excited to welcome a **Graduate-level Engineer** to support a wide range of impactful projects across Aotearoa New Zealand and Australia.
**How you'll make a difference:**
As a graduate project engineer, you'll be mentored by industry experts while gaining hands-on experience in the design and delivery of transmission line projects. You'll be involved in:
+ Supporting the concept and detailed design of transmission lines using industry-standard tools such as PLS-CADD.
+ Assisting with structural assessments and designs of towers and poles using Excel, PLS-TOWER, and PLS-POLE.
+ Learning to design various foundation types, including grillage, direct-embed, and pile foundations.
+ Contributing to design reports and project documentation.
+ Participating in site visits and inspections to see your designs come to life.
**Qualifications**
+ **Bachelor's Degree:** A recently completed or soon-to-be completed degree in Civil, Structural, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
+ **Graduate Year:** You must have completed your studies and have graduated before starting the program.
+ **Commencement:** You must be able to commence work by February 2026. We are open to mid-year finishers who are able to commence by July 2026.
+ A strong interest in transmission line design and a desire to work in the energy infrastructure sector.
+ Familiarity with design software (e.g., PLS-CADD) is a plus, but not essential - we'll train you!
+ Excellent communication skills and a willingness to work as part of a collaborative team.

Key job responsibilities

* Act as resident engineer during new colo construction projects. Support construction, commissioning, and handover.
* Troubleshoot, conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and create Corrective Action (CA) documentation for site/equipment failures.
* Directly support operational issues with ad-hoc training, complex operating procedure reviews, including essential equipment, and event support.
* Provide technical support to the design for existing data center upgrades and design-solutions, which add capacity, improve availability, and increase efficiency.
* Supporting operating partners to lead, review, and approve designs for existing co-location (colo) data center upgrades which improve availability/efficiency.
* Interface with operating partners, data center design engineering team, server hardware team, environmental health and safety team to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in services delivered by operating partners.
* Work on concurrent projects, sometimes in multiple geographical regions.
* Initiate and lead engineering site audits within leased or colo data centers. Produce reports outlining risks with recommended mitigations and remediation's.

Each day you will interact with different teams responsible for all aspects of the data centers. You will prioritize your activities to support data center capacity availability and safety focusing on the actions that are most impactful. Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Direct experience with the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of mission critical facilities, especially data centers.
- 6+ cumulative years of experience with industrial or commercial engineering in Mission Critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation, oil / gas facilities. (Experienced Engineer)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
- Ability to carry design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment/mass production
- Basic understanding of both mechanical and electrical equipment/design related to data centers (Including but not limited to: uninterruptible power sources , diesel generators, electrical switch-gear, power distribution units, variable frequency drives, automatic/static transfer switches, chillers (air-cooled and water-cooled), pumps, cooling towers, heat exchangers, CRAHs, air economizers, etc.)
- Have fluent knowledge of continuous operating redundant electrical systems, cooling systems, air flow containment systems and building management systems. (Including but not limited to: uninterruptible power sources, AC/DC conversion, P&ID loops, diesel generators systems and complex arrangements, direct evaporative cooling systems, etc.).
