As an Aviation firefighter with Auckland AES, you'll respond to a variety of emergencies, including aviation incidents, building fires, medical emergencies, maritime rescues, and hazardous materials. Your role is vital in protecting lives, property, and the environment, ensuring smooth operations at one of Australasia's busiest airports.
Our shift pattern involves two days and two nights of work, followed by four rest days, allowing our firefighters to recover and balance work and personal life.

What You’ll Bring We value alignment with our AKL values: All In, Know How, and Let’s Go. You should be physically active, team-oriented, level-headed, empathetic, and capable of making decisions under pressure. Essential requirements include:
- Physical fitness and health, passing ongoing assessments
- Full Class 1 NZ driver’s license; Class 2 license required by the end of training
- Ability to learn, follow instructions, and work in a team
- Shift work capability
- Clearance for Civil Aviation Authority Airport Identity Card and background checks
Special Requirements - Complete a physical assessment (details on our careers page)
- NZ full Class 1 driver’s license; Class 2 learners required to start training
- Swim short distances and complete timed tread water activities
- Legal entitlement to work in NZ
- Willingness to undertake a 20-week paid training course, with necessary visas/passports for international travel
