We are looking for a motivated Automotive Retail Buyer & Operational Coordinator to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for purchasing high-quality used vehicles from overseas suppliers (mainly Japan) for resale across our nationwide branches. 

Alongside vehicle purchasing, you will play a key role in coordinating quality control, inventory management, and operational processes to ensure vehicles are ready for sale and meet both company and New Zealand regulatory standards. This includes working closely with the Operational Manager, branch managers, and other departments to ensure smooth operational flow.

Role Includes - 

Vehicle Purchasing & Supplier Relations

• Source and purchase used vehicles from overseas suppliers in line with market demand.

• Negotiate purchase terms and pricing to optimise profitability.

• Evaluate trade-ins and support appropriate used vehicle pricing strategies.

Inventory & Quality Control

• Oversee used vehicle inventory, ensuring optimal stock mix and timely turnover.

• Develop and implement pre-sale quality control standards.

• Inspect vehicles to ensure compliance with WoF, registration, and presentation standards.

• Coordinate repairs, reconditioning, and grooming with suppliers, panel beaters, and mechanics.

Retail Buyer, Operational Support & Coordination

• Allocate vehicles to branches based on sales trends and turnover rates.

• Liaise with transport companies for timely deliveries.

• Ensure compliance with consumer protection and vehicle safety regulations.

Collaboration & Reporting

• Analyse sales data and provide insights to assist business decision-making.

Skills & Experience

• Proven experience as a Retail Buyer, ideally within the automotive industry.

• Clear knowledge of New Zealand vehicle compliance requirements and market trends.

• Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.

• Proven ability to analyse sales data and market demand to inform purchasing and allocation decisions.

• Proficiency with Japanese is strongly preferred, due to the primary location of our overseas vehicles. 

• Organised and able to coordinate multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

• At least 3 years of relevant experience is required for this position.

Key Tasks Include:

• Prepare and clean the surfaces of the vehicle panels, machines and other parts 
• Sand, fill and chisel the surfaces for the best results
• Mask areas that need to be painted 
• Select pre-mixed paint or mix colours to create required colour in the event of unavailability of the ones requested by customers 
• Spray paint automobiles, machines and other parts
• Apply primer and finishing coats using spray-guns
• Balance, layer and touch up colours and polish the surface

This role is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of heavy-duty diesel engines and systems, including trucks, construction equipment, and agricultural machinery. The
expertise in automotive mechanics required for this position will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability and performance of all customers' vehicles.

This is a full-time role with 45 hours workweek; Monday to Friday with occasional weekend work (as required).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Diagnose and Repair

• Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical and electrical issues in heavy diesel engines and equipment. Perform repairs, maintenance, and overhauls on engines, transmissions,
  brakes, and other systems.

Preventative Maintenance

• Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on diesel-powered vehicles and equipment to ensure they meet safety and performance standards.

Engine Overhauls

• Perform major engine overhauls, including rebuilding or replacing components such as pistons, valves, and cylinder heads.

Documentation

• Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts used, and maintenance activities in accordance with company policies and industry regulations.

Safety Compliance

• Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others. Identify and address potential safety hazards.

Quality Assurance

• Ensure all work is completed to high-quality standards and in compliance with industry best practices.

Tool and Equipment Maintenance

• Keep tools and equipment in good working condition and report any issues for repair or replacement.

REQUIREMENTS

DIESEL MECHANICS – CRUSHING EQUIPMENT SPECIALIST

We are seeking skilled and dedicated Diesel Mechanics to join our dynamic team in Auckland. The successful candidates will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines, as well as the mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems of diesel-powered vehicles and equipment. This includes tasks such as troubleshooting faults, performing preventative maintenance, overhauling components, and ensuring vehicles and machines operate safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Service, repair, and maintain diesel-powered crushing and screening equipment (e.g. crushers, screens, conveyors, mobile plants).
• Conduct fault-finding, diagnostics, and mechanical troubleshooting on-site and in-house.
• Read and interpret mechanical and engineering drawings and technical manuals.
• Perform hydraulic, engine, and drivetrain maintenance and repairs.
• Record service activities, inspections, and parts usage using standard documentation.
• Work independently or as part of a team on planned maintenance, urgent breakdowns, and site rebuilds.
•  Travel frequently to customer sites throughout New Zealand and abroad (overnight stays required).

Desirable Skills and Experience 

• A relevant New Zealand qualification at Level 4 in Heavy Automotive Engineering or equivalent, with three years apprenticeship, or a minimum of three years of experience as a Diesel Motor Mechanic working directly with crushing and screening plants.
• Proven ability to read and understand engineering drawings and schematics.
• Solid understanding of hydraulic and mechanical systems.
• Experience working in high-risk environments following documented H&S systems.
• Physically fit and capable of field work and travel.
• Strong work ethic, able to work independently or in a small team.
• Clean driver’s license.

This is a full-time, permanent role, and the hourly pay rate ranges between NZ$30 and NZ$45, depending on experience and qualifications.

The work hours are from 30 hours minimum to 50 hours maximum per week, and they are to be worked between Monday and Friday, between 7 am and 5 pm. They may be required to work on weekends.

You will be expected to work a minimum of 40 hours per week from Monday to Friday as normal hours of work, and you may also be required to perform on Saturday as well. Please note this is a permanent full-time role and the hourly pay rate would be $35.00-$40.00 based on experience and ability, as well as addition qualifications.

The job will require the candidate to maintain, test and repair diesel motors and other heavy vehicles such as trucks, buses.

·    Inspects heavy vehicles to identify mechanical issues and determine the necessary repairs .

              ·    Uses computerized diagnostic tools to identify problems with diesel engines and              mechanical parts of heavy motor vehicles.

·    Repairs or replaces faulty parts and components of motor vehicles.
