About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and reliable Mobile Automotive and Service Tech (General) to join our team in Auckland. This role involves maintaining industrial machinery and mobile equipment. The successful applicant will play a key part in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our automotive and mechanical systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • General service of automotive machinery, components, and systems, elevator machinery, brakes, and gearboxes.

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical faults in machinery and equipment

  • Interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications

  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair work

  • Ensure compliance with health and safety standards at all times

Minimum Skills & Experience Preferred

  • relevant work experience as an Automotive Tech or in a similar mechanical trade role or Relevant trade qualification (e.g., Level 4 certificate  

  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical/engineering drawings

  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, tools, and maintenance techniques

  • Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team

  • Must be physically fit and capable of manual work

  • Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems

  • NZ residency, citizenship, or valid work rights preferred

Job Description

  • Understand the insurance company process for preparing and painting vehicles
  • Be able to follow the instructions on the job card
  • Check the vehicle before commencing work for any additional painting required take images and report to supervisor
  • Check paint codes/colours and volumes required before commencing.
  • Prepare vehicles for painting with the correct tools and equipment and follow company procedures
  • Be able to mix paint to manufactures instructions
  • Know how to do a pre paint inspection to make sure prep and masking is correct to eliminate rework.
  • Carry out painting using BTP (best trade practises) and manufacturers specs
  • Examine finished vehicle and check for defects unmask and clean up as required before refit.
  • Comply and understand our Health and Safety policies and procedures
  • Work as part of team 

Job Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Spray Painting
  • A reliable and active team player
  • The desire to upskill and become a part of the Fleet Image Family.

Fleet Image offer

  • Hourly rate on offer for Spray Painters - $30 - $34 per hour depending on skill level
  • Full time permanent role with a minimum of 40 hours per week and the opportunity for overtime
  • Monday - Friday Saturday rolling roster (every third Saturday - 8am-1pm)
  • Work in great facilities with ongoing training available

  • Repairing and replacing worn and defective parts and reassembling mechanical components, and referring to service manuals as needed

  • Reassembling engines and parts after being repaired
  • Testing and adjusting mechanical parts after being repaired for proper performance
  • Inspect vehicle computer and electronic systems to repair, maintain and upgrade
  • May inspect vehicles and issue roadworthiness certificates or detail work required to achieve roadworthiness
  • Liaise with clients to determine their automotive requirements and communicate vehicular defects or problems
  • May respond to vehicle breakdown service calls and repair or replace broken or dysfunctional parts and fix issues (e.g., leaks)
  • Maintain equipment and tools in good condition
  • Keep logs on work and issues
  • Adhere to company work safety policies
  • Excellent knowledge of mechanical, electrical and electronic components of vehicles
  • Working knowledge of vehicle diagnostic systems and methods
  • Ability to handle various tools (e.g. pliers) and heavy equipment (e.g. lift)
