Hunter Civil has projects across Canterbury and the South Island in 3 waters reticulation and pump stations, water and waste water treatment, temporary works, retaining walls, bridges, skate parks, marine developments and complex structures. They have a solid track record of doing extremely difficult challenging and high-quality projects.

As one of a team of Project Managers you will be responsible for the smooth operation of one/several civil construction sites including management of the programme, budget, resources, methodology, construction detailing, HSQE and more.

This is a full time challenging role best suited to someone who has highly developed critical thinking skills, is details driven, able to build, develop and lead high performing teams. This will require highly disciplined organisational skills, necessary to succeed in this highly dynamic challenging industry.

Required experience and skills: 

  • A solid experience working within the NZ civil construction industry – we are looking at candidates capable of taking projects from tender development to handover, ideally with minimum of 5 years’ experience, typically with a value of $500K to $10M.

  • An in depth understanding of contractual facets of construction – especially NZ3910:2013, and change management.

  • A proven delivery record of leading multiple projects to successful outcomes.

  • Able to produce detailed reports on project performance.

  • Superb communication skills to develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.

  • Hold a relevant tertiary education within civil industry/engineering.

  • Proficiency using MS Project or similar project management software. Create and/or contribute to the detailed construction programme. Monitor and update regularly.

  • Interpret and advise on job designs, value engineer where appropriate, project plans, and assist project controls, including budgeting, scheduling, planning and risk.

  • Develop workforce management plan, and plan for current and future work.

  • Ability to lead and direct Project/Site Engineers, on site operational teams and coordinate with the wider Management team.

  • Alignment of key results areas and KPI’s to meet company’s objectives and vision to deliver physical outcomes at scale and pace.

  • Working closely with the Operation Manager and the Contracts Manager to identify ideas to innovate and improve the delivery of the project.

**About the role**
We have an exciting opportunity for a **Senior Civil Engineer** to join our winning team based in one of our many office locations nationwide. You will join an established multi-disciplined team, where there is a cluster of experienced engineers and project managers who can guide and mentor you as your build your career. You will be applying the technical knowledge you have, working alongside senior and up and coming specialists around the country to ensure extensive development for you.
Key aspects of the role will be:
* Lead on assigned projects to deliver the agreed outputs on budget, on time and to quality standards
* Determine client requirements, conduct and manage site surveys and investigations, produce calculations, cost estimates, specifications and drawings to ensure that technical designs provide quality solutions
* Organise tender documents, evaluate tenders and contracts.
* Develop and mentor junior staff
* Liaise continually with our clients to ensure that their expectations are met and that any concerns are heard and addressed appropriately
* Clearly understand the objectives of new and existing clients in order to undertake effective business development and identification of opportunities for Stantec.
* Produce quality project outputs, ensuring scope changes are closely monitored and design work is adequately resourced, reviewed and programmed.
**What you will bring**
You will be an experienced Civil Engineer with experience in general civil engineering projects, especially Water infrastructure. You have a passion for quality and timely project delivery, developing technical skills and growing your commercial understanding at a global consulting firm.

+ Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
+ 10 years relevant experience desirable, preferably in water infrastructure

You will have a chance to work on exciting large scale projects from the initial investigation right through to design and completion of construction. You will have the technical support of our extensive design resources based in New Zealand and the wider Asia Pacific area).
Key aspects of the roll will be:
* Project Technical Lead on a variety of projects to ensure the team delivers on Project agreed outputs on budget, on time and to quality standards.
* Working closely with key clients, understanding their needs and problems they face, able to get in front of projects and influence outcomes for successful team outcomes.
* Work with team members to ensure their technical development is ongoing.
* Liaise continually with our clients to ensure that their expectations are met and that any concerns are heard and addressed appropriately.
* Clearly understand the objectives of new and existing clients in order to undertake effective business development and identification of opportunities for Stantec.
* Produce quality project outputs, ensuring scope changes are closely monitored and design work is adequately resourced, reviewed and programmed.
* Prepare cost estimates for project design and construction.
* Contribute to proposal and bid development to support business development activities, including preparing proposal material as required and working with the delivery contractor.
**What you will bring**
Our preferred candidate for this role will have proven technical experience in water engineering projects encompassing water & wastewater projects. You will be experienced dealing with a range of clients and stakeholders including local authorities, government bodies and commercial companies.
Your own self-management skills will be as important as your technical and project delivery ones. You will need to be able to prioritise workloads whilst maintaining strong and trusting working relationships with our clients' and colleague's both locally and across the broader Stantec business.
You'll be a confident communicator with an engineering tertiary qualification with 20 or more years' experience, who is able to develop strong internal and external client relationships, carry out all aspects of project delivery and oversight of technical delivery, including client and stakeholder consultation and negotiation when required.
