Opportunity Overview:
At Quantifi Photonics, we're redefining the boundaries of photonics innovation, and we're looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our growing product development team. In this role, you'll be responsible for designing and developing mechanical components, enclosures, and assemblies that bring our next-generation products to life. You'll play a key role in ensuring designs meet performance, manufacturability, and reliability standards while supporting the delivery of high-quality products to market.
+ Design and develop 3D models and detailed drawings for mechanical parts (enclosures, heatsinks, brackets, etc.) using CAD tools (Inventor, SolidWorks or similar).
+ Build and test mechanical prototypes to verify form, fit, and function; conduct environmental and stress testing to validate designs.
+ Collaborate cross-functionally with NPI, Manufacturing, Procurement, and Operations teams to ensure designs are optimized for manufacturability and cost.
+ Conduct simulations and engineering calculations for thermal, vibration, and mechanical stress analysis.
+ Align mechanical solutions with overall product requirements, balancing function, aesthetics, and environmental constraints.
+ Prepare and manage Bills of Materials (BOMs), drawings, and controlled release packages in accordance with internal documentation standards.
+ Contribute to continuous improvement by implementing design, material, and process enhancements based on lessons learned and emerging technologies.

+ Solid experience designing mechanical systems and sub-systems for commercial products.

+ Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, materials, tolerancing, thermal management, and design for manufacturing.

+ Experience designing tooling, jigs, and fixtures for manufacturing.

+ Experience with issue/task tracking tools such as JIRA.

This is a 10-month maternity leave contract, commencing around mid-August, for 32 hours a week. (4 full days or 5 shorter days).
Key Responsibilities:

Coordinate the development of upholstery and drapery products specific to the New Zealand Market

Assemble colour lines for new ranges

Oversee the development and introduction of finished goods, including liaising with offshore suppliers

Manage sampling purchasing in collaboration with the Sales Director

Order and coordinate product ranges with suppliers

Shipping sample approvals

Preparation of colour boards for showrooms and accounts managers

Coordinate and merchandise showroom displays, including organising fabrics, cushions, rugs, and drapery

Manage the preparation and presentation of trade shows and exhibitions, and attend where required

Design sales presenters for the team, particularly for private-label finished goods

Using creative suites - Adobe Suites, indesign, PhotoShop + Canva
