As a Graduate Civil Engineer based in Stantec’s Auckland office, you will be working on projects that ensure we manage all 3 waters safely and sustainably. From ensuring clean fresh water is delivered to our communities, to managing wastewater to protect the environment, to preventing flooding across neighbourhoods during storms, we’ve done it before.
You will contribute/work in the following activities on a day-to-day basis assisting the wider water team:
- Performing data analysis and design calculations.
- Assisting with GIS analysis related to hydraulic modelling.
- Site visits to understand real life constraints and opportunities for development
- Contribute to report preparations.
- Attend meetings/workshops.
- Communicate with other teams/disciplines as required.
The position would give the undergraduate an opportunity to gain knowledge of civil engineering and understand its importance.
Additionally, the intern would get an opportunity to understand different aspects of New Zealand water industry through exposure to a variety of activities carried out by our wider team.

Who can applyTo be eligible to apply you must:
- Be in your second or third year of study
- Currently studying a Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Hons) or Bachelor or Engineering Technology or Civil Engineering Diploma
- Preferably have a full clean current driving licence
- Able to commence work from 24th November 2025 to 13th February 2026

About the Role
With a new branch opening and an internal promotion creating opportunity, we’re recruiting a Civil Site Engineer to join a highly capable and ambitious delivery team.
You'll lead boots-on-the-ground construction across energy infrastructure builds—from earthworks and trenching to concrete pads, cable ducts, and structural foundations. It’s a role with variety, autonomy, and real growth potential.
Key Responsibilities:

Oversee site operations on energy projects (substations, power farms, HV trenching)

Manage civil crews, subcontractors, plant, and materials
-
Ensure all works meet H&S, quality, and program targets

Report site progress to the Contracts Manager

Mentor junior crew and contribute to a high-performing team culture
About You:
You will know how to run a tidy, productive site, and you’re confident delivering works that support critical energy infrastructure.

2+ years' experience in civil construction/infrastructure
-
Proven site leadership—earthworks, in-situ or precast concrete, cable trenching
-
Comfortable reading plans, managing crews, and liaising with engineers
-
Strong commitment to H&S and a hands-on, lead-by-example style

Willingness to travel or work away when required
-
Positive, motivated, and a natural communicator
