We're seeking a Senior Project Manager to join our civil business - a division of Fulton Hogan specialising in infrastructure construction, based around reinforced concrete. We are currently delivering work ranging from bridges and wharves to water treatment plants, storage tanks and pipelines.

In this role, you'll see yourself responsible for the effective delivery of heavy civil/structures projects. This includes the planning, resourcing and coordination from end to end, whilst ensuring we achieve and exceed all targets, including safety standards, quality standards, budgets, programme and project objectives.

This role will be based in Christchurch however you may need to travel to other projects throughout NZ.

On a day-to-day basis you'll be responsible for:

  • Developing construction plans and documentation
  • Managing the construction team and sub-contractors
  • Planning the execution of the works and developing construction methodology for all elements of the works
  • Providing a monthly forecast of cost to complete to the Commercial Manager, and an estimate of the work completed in terms of percentages complete to the planner
  • Optimising the use of material, plant and labour
  • Reporting progress and performance to the engineering manager
  • Maintaining a safe and tidy site, assisting in the development of management systems and ensuring compliance within your team
  • Undertaking regular inspections to ensure that safety, environmental, and quality standards are achieved across the project.

What we're looking for:

This role will require a tertiary qualified Civil Engineer with at least 10 years + post graduate experience, offering a depth of delivery expertise in a range of civil construction projects.

We are also looking for these key skills:

  • Design input - must be a be able to work alongside design teams - reviewing and providing design input, constructability input, facilitating specialists into the design.
  • Programme Management & Continuous Improvement - key to the success of the project is driving programme, the PM will need to work alongside the design team and continuously drive programme deliverables and look for opportunities of improvement.
  • Multi-Disciplines - must have the ability to manage multi-disciplined teams from earthworks/drainage, structures, mechanical/electrical/process, ground improvements, building works etc.
  • Stakeholder Management - the PM will be key in managing stakeholder relations, constant communication is key to success.
  • Cost estimation - must have the ability to manage continuous cost.
  • Experience managing a range of NZS Contract types - Lump Sum & Cost Reimbursable.

We are looking for a Civil Engineering Technician. This is a permanent full-time role, and you will need to work from Monday to Saturday (35 to 40 hours per week).

  • Determine suitable construction methods, materials, and quality standards for civil and foundation projects.
  • Draft and interpret engineering specifications, drawings, and construction procedures for ground and structural works.
  • Organise and direct site labour, materials delivery, and plant/equipment use; coordinate on-site activities according to detailed programs.
  • Conduct soil and rock sampling at varying depths; perform or oversee laboratory testing to evaluate soil strength, compressibility, and load-bearing capacity.
  • Provide geotechnical input for safe loading design, excavation support, shoring systems, and foundation types.
  • Monitor and assess design changes, estimating their impact on costs, resources, and timelines.
  • Prepare and review cost estimates and assist with budget control throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure that structural and geotechnical designs meet performance standards, including resistance to collapse, deflection, and vibration.
  • Support site-based problem solving and technical decision-making during excavation, piling, and earthwork stages.
  • Liaise with project managers, consultants, and contractors to ensure smooth delivery of foundation and civil components.

What you’ll bring

A bachelor's degree or a Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or Construction Engineering

Extensive customer/client service experience

Experience in construction/Civil is preferred

It would be an advantage if you have NZ work experience

Strong Written, verbal, and presentation skills;
