Cake Passion in Flat Bush currently look for a hardworking and reliable Pastrycook to join us. Working hours is from 35 to 40 hours per week. Pay rate ranges from $30 to $32 per hour.  

Suitable candidates must have the following skills and attributes:

  • Minimum 2 years relevant work experience.

  • Can work until 6.30pm; available to work on weekends and public holidays. 

  • Physically fit for heavy liftings or standing for extended periods.

  • Have strong multitasking and organizational skills.

  • Reliable and punctual, can work independently as well as in a team.

Your duties will include:

  • Check the cleanliness of food preparation area and baking equipment.

  • Check oven and baking equipment to ensure everything works well.

  • Check the quality of raw material, weight and measure ingredients. 

  • Knead, mature, cut, mould, mix and shape dough. 

  • Prepare fillings, sauces, cream, icing.

  • Monitor oven temperatures and product appearance to determine baking time.

  • Remove baked goods from oven and cool baked goods.

  • Glaze buns and pastries, decorate cakes with cream and icing.

  • Perform any other related duties.

The position is Permanent, minimum 30 working hours per week, Monday to Sunday (shift) with hourly rate $30.00 -$33.60

We require the candidate:

  • At least 2-year of related working experience

We prefer the candidate:

  • Adaptable to change and able to multi-tasks

  • Able to work under pressure.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Inspecting the sanitation of tools and the functionality of the workspace before starting production to maintain adherence to workplace safety standards.

  • Verifying the standard of base ingredients and measuring components accurately.

  • Manipulating dough through processes like kneading, resting, dividing, shaping, blending, and forming pastry items.

  • Creating mixtures for pastry fillings.

  • Observing heat levels in ovens and assessing the visual quality of items to establish appropriate baking durations.

  • Managing the stages of shaping, placing in ovens, baking, removing, extracting from pans, and cooling batches of baked goods.

  • Applying glazes to buns and pastries, as well as embellishing cakes with frosting and decorative finishes.

  • Handling equipment designed to shape dough and portion biscuits.

  • Clearing, washing, and lubricating baking sheets, molds, and other culinary tools.

**Your day to day**

Job Description:

  • Opportunity to learn from a passionate Head Chef and support offered from a remote Executive Chef.
  • A daily changing menu catering for up to 16 guests.
  • work with the best ingredients the region has to offer.
  • Imagine daily bar bakes and desserts with the assistance of the Head Chef.
  • Assist with kitchen daily tasks.
  • Create and achieve weekly pastry planning, work around seasonal and localy sourced ingredients.
  • Train the team on different pastry techniques to cover for your days off.

  • The post holder may be required from time to time to undertake other duties within the estate as may be reasonably expected, without changing the general character of the duties or the level of responsibility entailed.

This is a permanent position  with a minimum of 30 hours per week.

The successful candidate can be offered staff accommodation in one of our shared Staff Houses.

Please note: You should have a minimum up to 2 years previous experience in the above or similar roles.

Minimum Requirements:

All applicants must have the following:

  • At least 2 years of experience working in a high end kitchen & in a similar position.
  • Good knowledge of New Zealand’s Food Safety processes.
  • Able to legally work and live in New Zealand.
  • Able to relocate & work in a beautiful but remote location of the South Island.
  • Driver’s license as work the lodge is remote.
  • English speaking is a must.
  • Comfortable dealing in a fast paced environment and daily rotating menus.
  • Must be flexible and available to work across weekends and Public holidays.
  • Friendly, positive and make our guests feel at home.
