About the role
We are looking for a motivated Senior Power Engineer to join our Electrical Engineering team at Stantec New Zealand. This is an exciting and varied role that can be based in one of our 15 offices in the country. You will work on both Electrical and multidisciplinary projects to support our Water, Building Services and Energy group and work on a broad spectrum of MV and LV projects across New Zealand, Australia and the South Pacific, including substations, treatment plants, diary facilities and transmission and distribution. These may include planning and studies, new & retrofit installations, upgrades to existing systems, testing, commissioning, and optimization.
As a Senior Power Engineer, you will:
+ Lead the preparation of Electrical detailed design drawing packages for utility interconnection, substation design, electrical system protection and coordination, power distribution, standby power systems design, MV and LV power distribution, DC systems.
+ Conduct and review electrical design calculations and protection settings.
+ Assist with proposal requests, developing design and construction engineering fees, and report writing.
+ Complete condition assessments for various facilities including report writing and participation in client meetings.
+ Assist with preparation of contract documentation including equipment and installation specifications, cable/conduit schedules, sub-contractor requisitions, scope-of-work, and bill-of-materials.
+ Participate in technical review and quality control of design drawings and documents and ensure compliance with New Zealand & Australia electrical codes and standards
+ Support during tendering and construction including responding to RFIs, reviewing drawings, evaluating electrical reports completing site inspections, preparing testing plans, preparation and evaluation of change orders and participation in project meetings
+ Coordinate electrical system designs with other engineering disciplines (process, mechanical, civil, etc), vendors, and other design team members.
What you will bring
You will be an experienced Electrical/Power Engineer with a background in power generation, protection, and/or distribution. You will have a strong working knowledge of medium voltage design, electrical system protection and control, standby power options and implementation, and detailed design deliverables. Your experience can include generation sites, transmission and distribution power systems, renewable energy projects, water and wastewater treatment facilities, industrial facilities or commercial facilities.
With excellent interpersonal skills you are capable of working individually and within a team, providing development and guidance in your area of expertise to junior colleagues as needed. You are also well organized, able to multi-task managing multiple projects/priorities and deliver excellent project outcomes within deadlines.
Other attributes that may help you succeed in the role:
+ Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or other relevant discipline;
+ 7 years of electrical design experience
+ Strong working knowledge and experience in producing MV power distribution and protection designs for complex large scale projects
+ Understanding LV power designs desirable but not mandatory
+ Strong knowledge of NZ & Australia electrical codes and standards
+ Project management experience desirable

This role ensures that all smart devices, platforms, and infrastructure work seamlessly together to provide residents with secure, efficient, and user-friendly smart living experiences. The IoT Systems Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the end-to-end IoT architecture for our smart home systems. This includes integrating connected devices, sensors, alarms, and automation solutions into a secure, scalable, and user-friendly environment for our residents.
Key Responsibilities
System Design & Architecture
- Design the overall IoT architecture for smart homes, covering hardware, firmware, middleware, and cloud layers.
- Define system requirements for smart devices, gateways, sensors, and controllers.
- Create integration strategies for lighting, HVAC, energy management, security, entertainment, and other connected systems.
- Ensure interoperability across devices using industry protocols (Zigbee, Z-Wave, Thread, Bluetooth Low Energy, Wi-Fi, etc.).
Implementation & Integration
- Lead the integration of third-party IoT devices and platforms into a unified smart home ecosystem.
- Develop APIs, SDKs, or middleware solutions for smooth communication between devices and applications.
- Collaborate with contractors, electricians, and construction teams during installation phases to ensure correct wiring, connectivity, and system configuration.
- Oversee cloud platform deployment (AWS IoT, Azure IoT Hub, or Google Cloud IoT) for data storage, analytics, and remote access.
Cybersecurity & Data Protection
- Implement secure authentication, encryption, and data management for all connected devices and platforms.
- Conduct risk assessments and vulnerability testing to safeguard against unauthorized access or data breaches.
- Ensure compliance with data privacy laws and regulations (e.g., GDPR).
Testing & Quality Assurance
- Develop testing protocols for IoT device compatibility, performance, and reliability.
- Run pilot tests in model apartments before large-scale deployment.
- Monitor and resolve integration issues, latency, or connectivity challenges.
Operations & Support
- Provide documentation, training, and technical support to internal teams and end-users.
- Establish protocols for system updates, firmware upgrades, and maintenance schedules.
- Work with customer service teams to troubleshoot post-installation issues.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Research emerging IoT technologies, edge computing, AI-driven automation, and sustainable smart home solutions.
- Recommend and pilot new solutions that enhance resident experience and property value.
- Maintain vendor relationships with IoT device manufacturers and software providers.
Requirements:
· At least a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field. AND
· At least of five years of proven experience in systems development, smart home technologies, or embedded systems integration.
· Strong knowledge of IoT protocols (MQTT, Zigbee, Z-Wave, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, LoRa, etc.).
· Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS IoT, Azure IoT, or Google Cloud IoT).
· Familiarity with mobile app integration and APIs for IoT devices.
· Understanding of cybersecurity principles for IoT environments.
· Excellent problem-solving, project management, and communication skills.

**QA Systems / Audit Engineer**
We are seeking an additional QA Systems/Audit Engineer to join their well-established QA team. The QA Systems/Audit Engineer works to ensure that the CHCEC's Quality Management (QMS) and Safety Management Systems (SMS) are in compliance with applicable regulatory and statutory requirements, that the business operation is in conformance with the QMS & SMS and that the business delivers a safe and airworthy product.

**Your Profile**
+ Hold an NZCAA Aircraft Maintenance Engineer License or an overseas equivalent
+ Hold or be prepared to gain a Lead Auditor qualification
+ Have a minimum of 10 years' experience in aviation maintenance, preferably with some experience working in a QA function in an aero-engine MRO
+ Have a high level of computer and IT literacy
