About the job
Reporting to the Distribution Centre and Warehouse Manager, this full time,permanent, minimum 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday (with occasional weekend work) position is available at our DC in Silverdale.
Summary of the role
As part of the greater logistics team with theRiviera Hardware Holdings Group, it is our aim that all Drivers be multiskilledto perform various tasks within the trade yard, timber and building area andthe retail space.Primarily, this role is responsible for operatinga mobile/truck mounted crane, hoist, lift, and/or winches to move and placematerials (including prefabricated timber frames and trusses)and equipment in areas such as building sites. Thisincludes understanding weight distribution, load security, and crane stability.
Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities
Truck mounted crane/HIAB operation
- Assessand Navigate Job Sites – evaluate site conditions, identify potential hazards (e.g., overhead powerlines, restricted access areas), and position the truck for safe lifting andunloading. This includes working within confined spaces and coordinating withon-site personnel.
- Setting up,controlling and monitoring the operation of equipment testing it before use.
- Controlling the movement of loads through variousmechanisms related to the operation of the Crane/HIAB.
- Receiving,loading, unloading and dispatching of good
Stock
- Completerequired documentation and processes correctly
- Ensure best practice operatingprocedures when handling stock and that damage to stock is minimized.
- Beactively involved in stock processes, process customer orders, branch transfersas per Procedure manual.
Health and safety
- FollowLoad Handling Regulations and Safety Protocols – adhere to WorkSafe NZ guidelines,traffic management plans, and load restraint requirements. This includesconducting pre-use inspections of the truck, crane, and lifting gear, usingslings and chains correctly, and communicating effectively with site teamsusing hand signals or radios.
- Participate in the Health and Safety Hazardawareness process including reporting hazards, incidents and work-relatedinjuries / accidents promptly in accordance with Company Health & SafetyPolicy.
- Ensurecorrect use of equipment and machinery in accordance with manufacturer’sinstruction.
General
- Takeon delivery responsibilities and provide highest level of service duringdeliveries
- Assist in the trade yard as requiredin serving customers, loading, and unloading stock, putting away stock.merchandising and general housekeeping
- Maintain a high standard ofprofessionalism when driving at all times
- Maintain knowledge of the necessarylegislative governances i.e., Fair Trades Act, Consumers Guarantee Act etc.,and act in accordance with them
- Adhereto NZ road codes and standards
Expertise and competencies
- Deepunderstanding of how to operate and control the crane equipment. This includesknowledge of the crane's controls, load capacities, and proper techniques forlifting and lowering loads.
- Knowledgeof weight distribution, load securing, and safe handling practices is alsocrucial.
- Havea strong sense of spatial awareness and the ability to plan routes that allowfor safe and efficient crane operation
- Understanding the basic maintenance requirementsof the equipment (routine inspections, minor repairs, and troubleshootingissues are necessary to keep the equipment in optimal working condition.
- Competencies in clear and concise communication, both written andverbal, are important for ensuring that work is carried out safely andaccording to plan
- A quick and alert mind with ability toadapt and be flexible
- Applies lateral thinking, displayingan ability to identify solutions
Experience and Qualifications
- NZQF Level 4 qualification OR at least 3 years previous relevant work experience .
- Full Class 1 New Zealand Driver’slicense AND a Class 4 Rigid Truck OR a Class 5 Truck and Trailer combinationrequired.
- This roleinvolves heavy lifting and requires a clean driving record (no drivingconvictions within the last three years.)
- D (dangerous goods) endorsement preferred.
- Further licence endorsements beneficial but not a pre-requisite.
- Some experience in retail or manufacturing would beadvantageous but is not a pre-requisite.
