We do health differently at Tui Ora. As a holistic kaupapa Māori (Māori approach) primary care organisation which has been serving the Taranaki community for more than 25 years, we provide a wide range of health and social wellbeing services for our whānau (families).
We follow a proven Māori model of care that puts whānau at the centre, empowering them to set their own life goals and create a pathway to reaching them. Our experienced and multi-disciplinary teams walk beside them every step of the way.
Our services include two GP practices across two locations in New Plymouth and Whaitara, a community nursing team made up of long-term health, diabetes, cancer, child and respiratory specialists, mental health and addiction services, social service navigator support, alcohol and drug recovery, and youth services to help whānau address life issues that may impact their overall health and wellbeing.

Mō te tūranga | About the role
Utilise your own Lived Experience to support whānau to navigate their journery within Mental Health and Addiction Services (Tui Ora and Health NZ Taranaki). The service objectives are to provide goal and solution-centered interventions; acknowledging and raising the voice of whānau / whaiora.
Kia ekena a angitū | To promote success in this role, you will have
Personal Experience with Mental Health and or Addiction challenges is essential
Lived Experience of Mental Health concerns that resulted in receiving psychiatrist level of care
An established Recovery Plan, with ongoing wellbeing strategies
Advocacy/peer support training or similar is preferred e.g. New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Social and Community Services) (Level 4) with strand in Mental Health and Addiction Support
Experience and be comfortable promoting mental wellness on an individual and at a community level
The ability to demonstrate a commitment to ongoing training and development
The ability to practice in a recovery and strengths-focused way
Well-developed written and oral communication skills
Proficient skills using a computer and preferably experience using client management systems.
Excellent interpersonal skills and able to work as part of a team
Excellent organisation skills and able to take responsibility for completion of tasks
A strong work ethic, demonstrated by a high level of integrity, reliability, efficiency, and self-management
Excellent attention to detail
The ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
The ability to demonstrate practical understanding of the aspirations and challenges facing Māori communities
Experience in applying tikanga Māori as it applies in the role (desirable)
A full, clean NZ Driver Licence.
