About the Role
This is a full-time, permanent position offering a minimum of 30 hours per week, rostered across 6 days, including weekends, evenings, and public holidays. The role requires flexibility, a strong commitment to food quality, and adherence to hygiene and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Planning menus and developing Indian dishes to suit customer preferences
• Estimating food and labour costs and maintaining inventory control
• Ordering food and supplies and liaising with suppliers
• Preparing, cooking, and presenting high-quality Tandoor and Curry dishes
• Monitoring food quality at all stages of preparation and service
• Demonstrating cooking techniques and advising kitchen staff
• Discussing food preparation with management and front-of-house staff
• Enforcing hygiene and food safety regulations in line with NZ standards
• Training and mentoring kitchen staff as required
• Freezing, storing, and preserving food following proper procedures

Essential Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum 3 years’ verifiable experience as a chef or
• A relevant Level 4 (or higher) qualification in cookery or hospitality.
• Specialisation in Indian cuisine, particularly Tandoor or Curry preparation is preferred
• Good communication skills and ability to follow kitchen systems and processes

Pay & Employment Terms

• Permanent, full-time employment
• Minimum guaranteed hours : 30 per week
• Hourly wage : $27–$29 (depending on experience and skill level)

At least 2 years relevant work experience is required, preferrably working in a bakery before. OR having bakery relevant qualification

Job tasks include:

• Preparing, baking, and producing pastries, breads, rolls, and desserts.  

• Using scales. graded containers, measures, weighs flour or other materials to make batters, doughs, fillings, or whipped cream.

• Decorating baked items such as cream pies using a pastry bag

• Adjusting the timing and speed settings for mixing or blending equipment so that the components are mixed or cooked according to the recipe.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In order to deliver our service, products and company values to our customers, all associates
(employees) are expected to understand and undertake the following tasks and responsibilities
during the course of your employment in your current role.

Customer Service: At St Pierre’s we pride ourselves on exemplary customer service. You will be required to uphold our principles and values when dealing with customers at all times.
Training and guidance will be given to all employees.

Food Preparation: You will be required to learn and participate in the preparation and presentation of food to a high standard. Please follow the manager’s instructions closely. This will most likely involve use of machinery, and knife handling.

Maintenance: You will be required to maintain equipment and facility in the premise to be ready for use before starting cooking and report to senior kitchen staff if you find them in a poor state.
Cooking: You will be involved in all stages of cooking, including cooking all types of ingredients (e.g. vegetables, meat, poultry, seafood) in a prescribed manner and handling cooking equipment and tools under the supervision of senior cooking staff.

Food Safety Program / Food Control Program: It is your duty to help keep the shop kitchen (food preparation areas, utensils, dishes, tools), shop front, dining area, bathrooms, exterior, and any other surrounding areas, in clean and hygienic conditions. Follow your manager’s instructions, and cleaning schedules and procedures. You may be required by MPI (Ministry of Primarily Industry) to
understand essential food handling procedures prior to commencing work in your workplace.

Promotion: You will undertake to help the business to promote its goods and services by giving samples, vouchers, suggestive selling or other promotions organized.
Teamwork & Training: You will be required to involve yourself and work as a team, under the guidance of your management.

Incoming goods: You may be required to receive and check incoming goods from the company’s suppliers. In all situations, you will act professional and courteous.

Qualifications and Experience Requirements
