Job Title: Harvest Operations Coordinator

About the role
Central Orchard Management Ltd is seeking a Harvest Operations Coordinator for the 2025–26 cherry harvest season. This fixed-term position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising the movement of people, equipment, and fruit during harvest. The role has a particular focus on harvest logistics, cool chain management, and fruit transport, and is directly impacted by weather and crop maturity.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and oversee daily logistics schedules for cherry harvest operations
- Coordinate allocation and movement of harvest equipment across orchard blocks
- Organise fruit pickups and deliveries to the packhouse, ensuring cool chain and fruit quality standards are maintained
- Assess harvest blocks (crop volume, varieties, hazards) and communicate outcomes with the grower
- Supervise and support team leaders and logistics staff, providing training, coaching, and performance feedback
- Conduct performance reviews with team leaders and evaluate KPI bonus results
- Monitor fruit quality during harvest and enforce compliance with food safety and regulatory requirements
- Lead health and safety practices and maintain accurate records
- Prepare documentation relating to quality assessments, performance monitoring, and health and safety compliance
Minimum requirements
- At least 2 seasons (five months) experience in a relevant role
- Knowledge of fruit quality standards and cool chain requirements
- Skills specific to the understanding of cherry fruit management and handling
- Experience managing seasonal teams in a fast-paced environment
- Familiarity with health and safety in horticultural setting
- Proven attention to detail for recording of information
- Exceptional communication and people skills
- Intermediate/Advanced level of experience with Excel/Outlook
- Preferable experience with AgriSmart and FreshPack Software
- Current driver’s licence - you will need to drive between different sites
Job Details
Term: fixed-term, 3 November 2025 – End of Harvest or 28 February 2026 (whichever is sooner)
Pay Rate: $36 per hour
Hours: Depending on harvest conditions, minimum 30 hours per week, maximum 50 hours per week hours of work will be per a roster Monday to Sunday between 6:00 am and 8:00 pm. You may be required to work Statutory Holidays and must be available to work the whole harvest period.

This fixed-term position is responsible for overseeing the efficient receival, intake and handling of harvested fruit, ensuring compliance with cool-chain and food safety protocols and maintaining the integrity of fruit quality from orchard to coolstore. The role has a strong focus on cool-chain management, intake logistics, and staff supervision, and is directly influenced by seasonal conditions, weather and crop maturity.
Key responsibilities
- Manage and supervise all inwards fruit receival processes, ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant intake into the system
- Coordinate the organisation of the inwards coolstore area, including stock flow, space allocation, and temperature compliance
- Oversee pulp temperature checks, hydrocooling protocols, and cool chain monitoring, escalating issues to management when required
- Develop and manage rosters for inwards staff; supervise daily activities, provide training and coaching, and monitor performance
- Ensure accurate recording and reporting of fruit movements, temperature logs, grower returns (bins/buckets), and intake data
- Liaise with Production and Operations Managers to align intake capacity with harvest volumes and packing schedules
- Oversee forklift operations for efficient loading/unloading of fruit and return of empty bins and buckets
- Lead and promote health & safety and compliance practices within the inwards team; complete hazard assessments and incident reporting
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in fruit receival, hydrocooling, and coolstore operations
Minimum requirements
- At least 2 seasons (five months) experience in a relevant role
- Experience applying cool-chain protocols, including pulp temperature monitoring and intake compliance
- Knowledge of fruit quality standards, cool chain requirements and traceability
- Skills specific to the understanding of cherry fruit management and handling
- Experience managing seasonal teams in a fast-paced environment
- Effective communication skills for working across operations, growers, and seasonal staff
- Familiarity with health and safety requirements in logistics or warehouse/coolstore settings
- Intermediate level of experience with Excel/Outlook
- Preferable experience with FreshPack Software
- Current forklift license

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Structure Steel Fabricators to join our team in the South Island. In this role, you will be responsible for :
§ Read and interpret working plans and steel lists for the job as and when required.
§ Follow all instructions given by Team leaders / Supervisors and Manager
§ Set out the work from these instructions and follow team leaders’ instructions where required.
§ Select and prepare steel stock
§ Measure, mark, cut, bend, and shape steel for structure using hand tools, power tools, and fabrication machinery
§ Assemble and join the steel for structures and mesh.
§ Erecting and lifting tackles by attaching pulleys and blocks to fixed overhead structures and installing cables and attaching counterweights.
§ Fitting and bolting tubes, support braces and components to form bases, fixing mesh and steel for installation
§ Check the quality of the finished steel for structures and repair if needed
§ Assist in operating cranes, hoists, and other material-handling equipment safely and efficiently when required
§ Adhere to health and safety requirements by erecting guard rails, guy wires, ropes, and cleats, laying planks and hanging safety nets where required

- 2 years or more work experience in steel cutting, assembling or relevant roles
