Job Description
Position Title: Two Bakers (Full Time)
Location: Wairoa District, New Zealand
Pay Rate: $25 – $35.00 per hour (depending on skills and experience)
Guaranteed Hours: Minimum 30 hours per week and maximum 40 hours
We are a busy bakery café serving the Wairoa District with fresh bread, pastries, cakes, and desserts. Our focus is on delivering high-quality baked goods, consistency, and great value to our local community. We are now seeking two experienced Bakers to join our hardworking team.
Position Purpose and Primary ObjectivesThe Baker is responsible for preparing and producing a wide range of bakery products to a high standard, ensuring food safety compliance, and maintaining efficient bakery operations. This role requires strong baking knowledge, independence, and reliability.
Key Responsibilities Baking & Food Preparation-
Inspect and prepare bakery equipment before and after use, ensuring food safety and occupational health compliance.

Check the quality of ingredients, accurately weighing and measuring to meet recipe and production requirements.

Mix, knead, mould, cut, and shape doughs and pastries using manual methods and bakery machinery.

Prepare pastry fillings and complete production processes independently.

Monitor oven temperatures, bake products in batches, and adjust timing for consistent results.

Apply decorative finishes such as icing, glazes, and cream to baked goods.

Operate, clean, and maintain baking machinery including dough rollers, moulders, and biscuit cutters.

Monitor ingredient inventory, rotate stock, and ensure sufficient supply for production demands.

Maintain a safe and clean bakery by greasing trays, cleaning machinery, and storing tools properly.

Perform basic equipment maintenance and report any faults promptly.

Take responsibility for opening the bakery café when rostered.

Communicate with managers and colleagues to ensure smooth production and service delivery.

Contribute to a positive and cooperative team culture.

Preferred: 3 years of commercial baking experience.

Minimum: At least 2 years of relevant work experience in a bakery, café, restaurant, hotel, or similar setting, or a relevant Level 4 qualification.

Ability to work independently and unsupervised.

Strong knowledge of dough handling, baking methods, and pastry production.

Good understanding of food hygiene and workplace safety.

Reliable, honest, and detail-focused.

Flexibility to work early mornings (from 3am), weekends, and public holidays.

Must pass a drug test and hold a clean criminal record.

Standing for long periods, walking, bending, lifting, carrying, and operating bakery machinery.

We are currently seeking a dedicated Store Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our busy store. This role is essential in ensuring smooth operations, maintaining high standards, and creating a welcoming atmosphere for our customers.
Job Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day store operations, including hiring, scheduling, training, performance management, supervising employees, and rostering.
- Manage store profitability and control expenses, including labour costs, inventory levels, and handling cash and inventory shortages.
- Maintain adequate stock levels, core product range, and effective merchandising.
- Develop and implement pricing strategies to ensure competitiveness while maintaining profitability.
- Plan and execute promotional campaigns, including seasonal and holiday promotions, to drive sales and attract customers.
- Monitor and optimize the product mix to meet customer demands and maximize sales opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with Employment and Health & Safety Legislation at all times.
- Negotiate supply and pricing agreements with suppliers to optimize costs.
- Complete daily, weekly, and monthly banking and turnover reports.
- Prepare annual budgets and work to achieve store performance goals within budget constraints.
- Implement and enforce daily operating procedures to ensure the store is clean, adequately stocked, organized, and well-maintained.
- Conduct regular stock takes according to company policy.
- Continuously enhance store performance and uphold high standards in customer service.
Person Specification
- Must have either relevant Bachelor or three years of relevant work experience
- Strong numerical data analysis skills
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Able to multitask and prioritize tasks
- Able to work during weekend and public holiday
