About Us

MHSOA provides a comprehensive service to people over the age of 65 years who are experiencing mental health difficulties and/or cognitive change.

About You

We currently have a vacancy for a Clinical Psychologist in our cohesive, well-functioning, multidisciplinary community team serving the culturally diverse population of West Auckland.

We are looking for a motivated Clinical Psychologist with the skills to engage in:

  • psychological assessment, neuropsychological assessment,evidence based interventions/ therapy modalities
  • specialist mental health assessment and safety planning
  • care co-ordination for a proportion of clients receiving psychological interventions

This position provides the opportunity to increase and enhance clinical skills across the range of psychological interventions, (including neuropsychological assessments) within an established and supportive work environment.

Under the APEX collective contract psychologists receive up to $2500 each per year for Continuing Professional Development which can be accumulated over two years to $5000. This offers the chance to attend overseas conferences or multiple workshops, plus books, and subscriptions each year.

This is a permanent position based at Waitakere Hospital, and a current APC is required.

We are currently recruiting for Mental Health Support Workers/Rehabilitation Coaches to work with our Mental Health/Traumatic Brain Injury clients at our West and South Auckland facilities.

We are The Goodwood Park Healthcare Group, a well established, innovative and leading provider of community and residential services for people who have a Mental Health Illness or Traumatic Brain Injury. We have full time (40 hours per week) positions available across all seven days of the week. There are a variety of different shifts available, both morning and afternoon, so there is quite alot of flexibility in work hours if you desire. These roles are available at our Kumeu, Ranui, Kelston sites in West Auckland and our Ramarama site in South Auckland.

About the role:

As a Mental Health Support Worker/Rehabilitation Coach you will work with our clients to provide support and encouragement as they go about their daily tasks. You will be responsible for maintaining their safety and providing guidance whilst joining them on various outings and participating in daily activities. You will help them achieve their goals as per their plans.

You will help to foster hope, identify strengths and develop resilience recognising that these are key components of the approach to leading a more positive and independent life.

The overall purpose of this role is to achieve maximised level of independence for our clients whilst providing a positive and safe living environment.

What you will need:

  • Team oriented and be a great communicator
  • A full New Zealand driver licence, or an International driver licence which you will convert to a New Zealand driver licence as soon as you are reasonably able to do so

Purpose of the Position

As a Consultant Psychiatrist within Auckland's public healthcare system, you will play a vital role in the delivery of high-quality, culturally responsive mental health care to adults in the community. You will work within a well-established, multidisciplinary service committed to holistic and recovery-oriented treatment that reflects the cultural diversity of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.

This is a permanent position that supports a team aligned with the Choice and Partnership Approach (CAPA) , delivering services that uphold the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and strive for equity in mental health outcomes, particularly for Māori and Pacific peoples.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments, diagnoses, and treatment planning for adult clients.
  • Manage psychiatric reviews and provide clinical leadership in risk assessment and management.
  • Collaborate effectively with psychologists, nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, peer support workers, and cultural advisors within the community team.
  • Contribute to shared decision-making and person-centred care in partnership with service users and whānau.
  • Uphold safe prescribing practices and monitor the effectiveness of pharmacological interventions.
  • Provide clinical supervision and mentoring to junior medical staff and registrars.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, clinical reviews, and peer consultation forums.
  • Take part in quality improvement initiatives, service development, and continuing professional education.
  • Promote equity, cultural competence, and trauma-informed care as core principles of service delivery.
  • Support the implementation of Māori models of care and ensure alignment with cultural frameworks that enhance access and responsiveness for tangata whaiora.
Key Requirements

Qualification & Registration:

  • Eligible for vocational registration as a psychiatrist with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) .

  • FRANZCP or equivalent international qualification in psychiatry.

  • Current Annual Practising Certificate (or eligibility to obtain one).

Experience & Attributes:

  • Prior experience working in adult community mental health settings.

  • Understanding of recovery principles and a commitment to collaborative, strengths-based care.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and across systems of care.
  • Cultural competence and a deep commitment to bicultural practice and the values of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Awareness of the social determinants of mental health and the ability to tailor treatment accordingly.
  • Strong documentation, clinical reasoning, and risk management skills.

Desirable Attributes:

  • Experience working with Māori and Pacific populations.

  • Familiarity with the CAPA model or similar collaborative care frameworks.
  • Interest in service innovation, equity initiatives, and integrated models of care.
  • Ability to mentor trainees, support workforce development, or lead service projects.
