Hunter Civil has projects across Canterbury and the South Island in 3 waters reticulation and pump stations, water and waste water treatment, temporary works, retaining walls, bridges, skate parks, marine developments and complex structures. As one of a team of Project Managers you will be responsible for the smooth operation of one/several civil construction sites including management of the programme, budget, resources, methodology, construction detailing, HSQE and more.

This is a full time challenging role best suited to someone who has highly developed critical thinking skills, is details driven, able to build, develop and lead high performing teams. This will require highly disciplined organisational skills, necessary to succeed in this highly dynamic challenging industry.

Required experience and skills: 

  • A solid experience working within the NZ civil construction industry – we are looking at candidates capable of taking projects from tender development to handover, ideally with minimum of 5 years’ experience, typically with a value of $500K to $10M.

  • An in depth understanding of contractual facets of construction – especially NZ3910:2013, and change management.

  • A proven delivery record of leading multiple projects to successful outcomes.

  • Able to produce detailed reports on project performance.

  • Superb communication skills to develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.

  • Hold a relevant tertiary education within civil industry/engineering.

  • Proficiency using MS Project or similar project management software. Create and/or contribute to the detailed construction programme. Monitor and update regularly.

  • Interpret and advise on job designs, value engineer where appropriate, project plans, and assist project controls, including budgeting, scheduling, planning and risk.

  • Develop workforce management plan, and plan for current and future work.

  • Ability to lead and direct Project/Site Engineers, on site operational teams and coordinate with the wider Management team.

  • Alignment of key results areas and KPI’s to meet company’s objectives and vision to deliver physical outcomes at scale and pace.

  • Working closely with the Operation Manager and the Contracts Manager to identify ideas to innovate and improve the delivery of the project.

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Tasks required of you that is within your skills and capabilities that is necessary for the business of the company.
  • Comply with all aspects of any contract, project or task and deliver customer services that meets or exceed the expectation of the customer or the Extrastaff business.
  • Erect Scaffolding or ladders for assembling structures above ground level.
  • Creating structures, forms or chutes and pouring concrete.
  • Cover subfloors with building paper to keep out moisture and lay hardwood, parquet, or wood-strip-block floors by nailing floors to subfloor or cementing them to mastic or asphalt base.
  • Fill cracks or other defects in plaster or plasterboard and sand patch, using patching plaster, trowel, and sanding tool.
  • Position and secure steel bars, rods, cables, or mesh in concrete forms, using fasteners, rod-bending machines, blowtorches, or hand tools.
  • General labouring cleaning construction sites as required by managers
  • Loading and unloading building and construction materials, tools and equipment and transporting them around building sites.
  • All other duties as assigned.


 

Skills and experience required:

 

  • Some experience in construction industry is preferable, but not essential.
  • Friendly, with good time management, & excellent work ethic are essential

Are you ready to shape the future of water infrastructure in Ōtautahi Christchurch? AECOM is looking for a Senior Civil Engineer -Water to join our high-performing and collaborative team.
Our team has a strong pipeline of exciting projects including Water Supply Renewals throughout Christchurch, key Engineer's Representative and Construction Administration roles, and project across various three water elements, this is your chance to make a real impact in your community while developing your career with a global industry leader.
+ Serve as Technical Lead on water infrastructure projects
+ Support and lead project delivery across the lifecycle - from design through to construction
+ Mentor and train junior staff across a range of technical and project delivery tasks
+ Manage client relationships and actively support work-winning efforts
+ Coordinate multi-disciplinary teams to meet project objectives, timelines and budgets

+ Proven experience as a Project Technical Lead in water infrastructure
+ Deep understanding of local authority renewals programmes and three waters infrastructure
+ Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage at all levels - from contractors to councils
+ A collaborative mindset and a willingness to delegate and empower others
