About the Role:
We are looking for an experienced and collaborative Civil Engineer to join our development team. This is a permanent, full-time role (40 hours per week) that is critical to the success of our platform. The successful applicant will work from our head office located in Auckland but will also be required to work from time to time at our project sites which are primarily in the Auckland region but could possibly be in any region of New Zealand.
This role offers the chance to work on projects from early feasibility through to design, tendering, and delivery. You’ll be collaborating with a supportive team of experienced engineers while also managing your own responsibilities. Work ranges from residential subdivisions and commercial developments. With projects that often involve complex construction works, earthworks and innovative water solutions.
Key Responsibilities
· Perform civil engineering design, including technical drawings, report writing, and construction monitoring, ensuring compliance with specifications and codes of practice.
· Support construction supervision, site inspections, technical clarifications, and as-built reviews for drainage works.
· Review project deliverables and oversee multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and consultants.
· Attend meetings with clients, councils, and third-party consultants to align project objectives.
· Support internal company processes, operations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
· Conduct flood risk assessments and design quality treatment drainage systems.
· Assess stormwater systems for new and existing sites, providing optimization recommendations.
· Collaborate with clients to resolve technical queries and ensure project requirements are met.
· Build and maintain trusted relationships with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.
· Monitor construction progress, troubleshoot on-site challenges, and ensure adherence to design specifications.
· Prepare detailed reports, feasibility studies, and cost estimates for projects.
· Engage in site inspections and coordinate with contractors to maintain project timelines.
· Experience liaising with Council and Watercare, familiar with regulatory variations across regions (e.g., Waikato).
Skills and Experience Required
· A bachelor's degree in engineering, majoring in Sewage Engineering would be preferred but not essential
· A sound knowledge of the general engineering principles, code of practice
· Strong written and verbal communication skills
· A minimum of 2 years' civil engineering or closely related experience
· Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS or similar engineering software.
· Strong analytical skills for risk evaluation and problem-solving.
· Experience with Land Development projects
· Excellent verbal/written communication for stakeholder collaboration.
· Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
· Ability to manage multiple projects within deadlines and budgets.

With excellent interpersonal skills you are capable of working individually and within a team, providing development and guidance in your area of expertise to junior colleagues as needed. You are also well organized, able to multi-task managing multiple projects/priorities and deliver excellent project outcomes within deadlines.

About the role
We are looking for a motivated Senior Power Engineer to join our Electrical Engineering team at Stantec New Zealand. This is an exciting and varied role that can be based in one of our 15 offices in the country. You will work on both Electrical and multidisciplinary projects to support our Water, Building Services and Energy group and work on a broad spectrum of MV and LV projects across New Zealand, Australia and the South Pacific, including substations, treatment plants, diary facilities and transmission and distribution. These may include planning and studies, new & retrofit installations, upgrades to existing systems, testing, commissioning, and optimization.
As a Senior Power Engineer, you will:
+ Lead the preparation of Electrical detailed design drawing packages for utility interconnection, substation design, electrical system protection and coordination, power distribution, standby power systems design, MV and LV power distribution, DC systems.
+ Conduct and review electrical design calculations and protection settings.
+ Assist with proposal requests, developing design and construction engineering fees, and report writing.
+ Complete condition assessments for various facilities including report writing and participation in client meetings.
+ Assist with preparation of contract documentation including equipment and installation specifications, cable/conduit schedules, sub-contractor requisitions, scope-of-work, and bill-of-materials.
+ Participate in technical review and quality control of design drawings and documents and ensure compliance with New Zealand & Australia electrical codes and standards
+ Support during tendering and construction including responding to RFIs, reviewing drawings, evaluating electrical reports completing site inspections, preparing testing plans, preparation and evaluation of change orders and participation in project meetings
+ Coordinate electrical system designs with other engineering disciplines (process, mechanical, civil, etc), vendors, and other design team members.
What you will bring
You will be an experienced Electrical/Power Engineer with a background in power generation, protection, and/or distribution. You will have a strong working knowledge of medium voltage design, electrical system protection and control, standby power options and implementation, and detailed design deliverables. Your experience can include generation sites, transmission and distribution power systems, renewable energy projects, water and wastewater treatment facilities, industrial facilities or commercial facilities.
With excellent interpersonal skills you are capable of working individually and within a team, providing development and guidance in your area of expertise to junior colleagues as needed. You are also well organized, able to multi-task managing multiple projects/priorities and deliver excellent project outcomes within deadlines.
Other attributes that may help you succeed in the role:
+ Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or other relevant discipline;
