About the Role:

We are looking for a motor mechanic to join our busy workshop in Upper Hutt, Wellington. The ideal candidate will be able to carry out a full range of automotive repair, engineering, fabrication, and Warrant of Fitness (WoF/AVI) duties to ensure high-quality, safe, and timely service for our customers. Key Responsibilities:

1.      Mechanical Repairs & Maintenance

o        Diagnose, repair, test and maintain vehicles (including engines, transmissions, electrical systems, brakes, etc.).

o        Perform light engineering, welding, and fabrication work as needed.

o        Dismantle and remove engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms and other components, and checking parts as well as reassembling engines and parts after being repaired

o        Perform routine maintenance services, for eg, oil changes, lubrications and engine tune-ups, to ensure smoother running of vehicles and compliance with regulatory requirements

o        Conduct authorized WoF inspections, ensuring all regulatory requirements are met.

o        Keep detailed records of repair work, parts used, and any recommendations for future maintenance.

2.      Customer Service & Communication

o        Liaise with customers to explain technical issues and provide repair options.

o        Offer professional, courteous, and accurate information regarding repairs, estimates, and service timelines.

o        Receive and handle customer feedback and concerns effectively.

3.      Operational & Administrative Support

o        Assist with office tasks (e.g., updating service logs, entering job details into the system, managing vehicle records) to help the shop run efficiently.

o        Manage hiring out of company trailers, including paperwork and condition checks.

o        Coordinate or perform vehicle breakdowns, lock-outs, and call-outs as needed; may also drop off or pick up customers.

4.      Health & Safety Compliance

o        Adhere to all safety protocols when operating machinery and handling tools.

o        Promptly identify, report, or resolve hazards in the workshop.

o        Maintain a clean, orderly workspace to minimize risks.

o        Wear and correctly use required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

5.      Equipment & Workshop Maintenance

o        Ensure tools and diagnostic equipment are in good working order.

o        Keep the workshop, office, lunch area, bathrooms, and carpark clean and tidy.

o        Assist with supplies and consumables procurement, costing, and ordering.

Requirements: 

3 years relevant work experience as a mechanic. A NZQCF Level 4 qualification or higher may be substitutable in absence of work experience.  Current WoF certification (or ability to obtain one). Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. A great attitude and attention to detail A valid Full driver’s license
