Job Purpose

We are seeking resolute and experienced Mobile Plant Operator to join our expanding orchard management and maintenance team. This is a permanent role working on multiple orchards, primarily in the greater Hawke’s Bay region. The Mobile Plant Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining of orchard machinery. This role supports all aspects of orchard operations, including land preparation, planting, cultivation, irrigation, pest management, thinning, pruning, and harvesting. It also requires compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards. Adaptability to clients’ needs, a cheerful outlook, and motivation as a collaborator are essential, with a focus on seeking continual improvement in results.

Key Tasks
  • Operate tractors, harvesters, loaders, sprayers, and other mobile machinery to prepare land, fertilize, cultivate, and assist with crop management.
  • Support irrigation, & pest control.
  • Maintain records of machinery use and orchard activities.
  • Perform routine machinery maintenance, cleaning, and minor repairs.
  • Monitor machinery performance and report faults.
Skills and Experience Required
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience in the pip fruit industry including but not limited to apples, grapes & kiwifruit with exceptional knowledge of pip fruit orchard and harvest procedures including operating horticultural mobile machinery.
  • Knowledge of orchard operations is necessary, and machinery maintenance preferred.
  • Current driver’s license (Class 1 Full) is necessary and/or heavy machinery license preferred.
  • Ability to work long hours and days as part of a seven-day-a-week operation, with rostered days off.
  • Ability to work in outdoor conditions including exposure to varying weather working around chemicals.
Desirable Skills
  • Current First Aid Certificate – Level 2 holder preferred.
  • Effective communication, diligence, reliability, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a resolute team.
  • Ability to think quickly, solve problems, and resolve issues as they arise.
  • Demonstrate strong work ethic, reliability, and cheerful outlook.
  • Flexibility to meet work demands as required.

We are currently looking for 4 Machinery Operators. Your experience should be with at least 2 of the following machines/mobile plants - tractors, sprayers, trucks, mulchers, forklifts, harvest machinery, disc ripping machinery, earthmoving/excavation machinery, forklift, hydraladas, roading machinery.

This is a full-time 30 hours minimum per week permanent position based in the Bay of Plenty with travel throughout the Bay of Plenty, Waikato, and Auckland regions. Days of work are 5 per week (you will be allocated various hours between 5am to 7pm (Monday to Sunday) and may vary according to seasonal demands.

Remuneration will be based on level of experience and your ability to deliver on key areas of responsibility between $28.00 to $32.00 dollars per hour.

Reporting to the Contracting Team Area Manager, your areas of responsibility will include:

  • Operate relevant machinery with care to ensure that plants and land are maintained and cared for in accordance with output requirements
  • Manage any minor machinery issues and look to resolve them by adjusting relevant machinery settings in accordance with SCH safety operating protocols
  • Day-to-day management of all documentation associated with machinery operation and relevant administrative tasks, including reporting documents
  • Prepare machinery with correct implements and tools, and be on time at the right place to execute the machinery operation schedule
  • Conduct pre-start machinery checks on machinery and equipment, and log onto the safety software system
  • Attach implements, set, and adjust controls on machinery and equipment in alignment with SCH safety operating procedures (SOP)

  • Safe towing and tying down of equipment when transporting a load, in alignment with NZTA safe towing regulations

The successful candidate will require the following skills, traits and competencies:

  • 3-years of relevant machinery operation experience or a relevant level 4 qualification.
  • Experience needs to be with at least 2 of the following machines/mobile plants - tractors, sprayers, trucks, mulchers, forklifts, harvest machinery, disc ripping machinery, earthmoving/excavation machinery, forklift, hydraladas, roading machinery.
  • Detailed and deadline oriented
  • Ability to complete tasks with high accuracy levels

The Underground Mining Fleet Manager will oversee the planning, deployment, operation, and maintenance of mobile equipment fleets across multiple underground mining operations in Latin America. RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop and implement regional fleet strategies to optimize equipment availability, utilization, and lifecycle performance.

Standardize maintenance programs, operating procedures, and asset management practices across multiple sites.

Coordinate fleet allocation and deployment to support production targets.

Provide technical and managerial oversight of underground mobile equipment operations (e.g., LHDs, trucks, drills, jumbos, utility vehicles).

Drive continuous improvement initiatives in fleet performance, safety, and cost control.

Ensure consistent application of OEM guidelines and best practices across all sites.

Develop and manage fleet budgets, capital expenditure plans, and cost forecasting.

Monitor KPIs (availability, reliability, cost per tonne, maintenance backlog) and report to senior leadership.

Lead, mentor, and develop site-based maintenance and operations teams.

Build strong relationships with local site managers, contractors, and OEM suppliers.

Promote cross-site knowledge sharing and collaboration.

Champion a strong safety culture across all sites, emphasizing preventive maintenance and safe operating practices.

RequirementsBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).10+ years of progressive experience in underground mining fleet management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.Proven track record managing fleets across multiple underground mining sites in Latin America.Strong knowledge of underground mining methods, mobile equipment, and maintenance strategies (preventive, predictive, reliability-centered).Demonstrated success in fleet optimization, cost control, and lifecycle asset management.Experience working in cross-cultural environments and fluency in Spanish and English required (Portuguese an asset).Willingness to travel frequently across sites within Latin America.
