Position Summary

The Vineyard and Horticulture Labour Supervisor is responsible for overseeing vineyard and orchard crews across various seasonal tasks, ensuring work is carried out safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. The role involves daily coordination of seasonal workers, including RSE (Recognised Seasonal Employer) staff, and serves as the critical link between vineyard/orchard and company management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily vineyard and orchard operations, including pruning, wire-lifting, bud-rubbing, canopy management, harvesting, and other seasonal tasks.
  • Lead, motivate, and manage teams of up to 20–30 seasonal or RSE workers across multiple vineyard sites.
  • Ensure work quality and productivity targets are met in line with client expectations.
  • Conduct on-site training, mentoring, and performance management of crew members.
  • Monitor and enforce health and safety protocols in accordance with company and WorkSafe NZ standards.
  • Communicate effectively with CropCrew management and vineyard clients regarding work progress, issues, and site requirements.
  • Complete accurate daily reporting of labour hours, job tasks, and team performance.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3-5 years experience in vineyard work, with at least 3 year in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Strong understanding of viticultural operations across all seasons.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and support culturally diverse teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Full driver’s licence (Class 1) – manual vehicle experience preferred.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including early starts and weekend work during peak seasons (company operates Monday - Sunday between 8:00am - 6:00pm).
  • Ability to travel to Malborough region, as required, to oversee work in this area. 
  • Reliable, punctual, and physically fit for outdoor work in all weather conditions.

Desirable Skills/Attributes

  • Experience working with RSE or international seasonal staff.
  • First Aid certificate or Health & Safety training.

  • Current driver’s license (Class 1 Full) is a must.
  • Assisting in coordinating labor supply and orchard services including planning staffing requirements based on customer demand, mapping orchards when required, recording the number of trees, vines, bays, and maintenance needs in each orchard.
  • Performing any other duties as assigned by management to ensure business continuity during seasonal fluctuations. Ability to work long hours and days as part of a seven-day-a-week operation, with rostered days off. Flexibility to meet work demands as required.
  • Ability to work in outdoor conditions including exposure to varying weather working around chemicals. Monitoring daily procedures to maintain proper quality standards including managing onsite incidents and emergencies proactively including but not limited to monitoring the growth and health of crops and following all hygiene and PSA protocols.
Desirable Skills
  • Current First Aid Certificate – Level 2 holder preferred.
